SearchShifter

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Definition

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of improving a website so it is more likely to appear prominently in search engine results for relevant searches. SEO focuses on helping search engines such as Google and Bing understand, index, and rank webpages.

Why It Matters

SEO remains an important way for businesses to improve their visibility in traditional search engines, but AI Search requires additional strategies because AI systems generate answers instead of primarily displaying ranked lists of webpages.

Simple Example

A real estate agent uses SEO to improve the ranking of their website for searches such as "homes for sale in Sacramento." The same agent uses SearchShifter™ to implement AI Naming Optimization, helping AI systems better recognize, understand, and use information about the agent's expertise, services, and market. Together, SEO and AI Naming Optimization help improve visibility in both traditional search and AI Search.
